Sanuki Udon @ Taman Bukit Desa

One weekend, we drove past Taman Bukit Desa, my Mr. requested to find a place nearby for our late dinner. We have ran out of ideas where to eat at that time. Luckily, My Mr. remembered Sanuki Udon which he had read from other food blogs, so we decided to give it a try. It was pretty easy to find this shop with a little help from google map. :)

A modest shop hidden in a peaceful residential area.
The shop has less than 15 tables here. The place easily gets very busy and packed and you might need to wait for your tables.

A glimpse of the shop.

Simple menu, we order 2 mains and add 2 toppings!

Some Japanese words, wish the owner translate them into English.

Shiitake Yakitori (mushroom and meat) - RM2 each stick
Both taste juicy and smells heavenly when it arrived at my table!

Kakiage (deep fried vegetables) - RM2
Crispy texture.

My Mr ordered a Curry udon - RM7

House Special hot Udon with egg - RM5

Simple, and light udon meal for me, but i must admit that the udon texture is so slurpilicious!! The springy noodles are made fresh daily that uses Australian wheat flour to give its chewy texture. You can also buy their udon and consume at home, RM15 at 1kg portion. Our bill came, only RM17!! Yummy food with reasonable price! I would definitely try the other 2 outlets, one in Wisma Cosway, and Marufuku Udon at Jaya One, Pj.

Kuriya Japanese Restaurant

I was at Bangsar Shopping Centre last weekend. It was dinner time, searching high and low for food. Wanted to dine in Chili's, but the waiting list was so long! At last, Me and Mr picked Kuriya to ease our hungry stomach. Kuriya was hidden at a corner of BSC, located between Grand Imperial Chinese Restaurant and 21 Tables and Terrace on the 3rd floor. Kuriya is one of the leading Japanese chain restaurant in Singapore. Kuriya means 'kitchen' in Japanese. I like the dark interior and ambiance of Kuriya, compliments with the fine dining concept.

We decided to order their special dinner set which is the Double Bento Set RM78++

Starter: Salmon salad
Well presented and looking appetizing. Salmon is very fresh, and the tomatoes gives a tender sweetness in the salmon. The thickness of the salmon cut is not too thick and not too thin.

Kani Chawanmushi
I love the design of the cup which holds the Chawanmushi. At first glance, we thought the Chawanmushi was some kind of crab or shark fin's soup. But when you dig your spoon in it, smooth egg custard underneath and topped it with snow crab and tantalising sauce. For once, we saw and tasted an interesting Chawanmushi. :)

The Double Bento set comes with two bentos, Tempura Mori & Stewed Vegetables, and Sushi Mori. The assorted tempura is crispy in texture.

The stewed vegetable consist of stewed potato sunken in salted flavour sauce with enoki mushrooms.

The 2nd bento - Sushi Mori
Very fresh assorted sushi. I reckon that Kuriya serves very fresh raw seafood or fish and very good soba.

Sansai Soba, in chinese is 山菜蕎麦
Never seen such soba so impeccably well presented before. I've gotta give thumbs up for this bowl of sansai soba. The soba is chewy and fragrantly pleasant. Sansai means mountain vegetables, this bowl comes with alot of sansai unlike the ones I had usually give very little. Love it! Oh and it comes with the baby mushrooms also one of my favourite. Kuriya's house speciality actually is their infamous freshly handmade soba.

Lastly, we were serve the dessert of the day - assorted fruits on ice with jellies in the middle.
I find this rather small and disappointing, oh well...I was quite full after sharing with Mr all the food above. The meal was satisfying and the waiters were very attentive, alert and good service after all. Price wise, the food is slightly expensive than the others. I would come back here again for their delicious soba and sashimi!

Terrace @ Hock Choon Revisited

Continue from last post. After lunch at Cafe Vienna, we headed to Terrace @ Hock Choon. Since i have promised to bring my besties to this awesome cool place. Believe me or not, those have came here before, love this unpretentious place immediately and it's floor to ceiling glass window!

Tea time!!
illy Cafe @ Hock Choon.

Greco Originale RM13
1 shot of illy Espresso with liquid cream & topped with cocoa powder

Peppermint Cool Chocolate RM13
Hot chocolate topped with crushed peppermint leaves
Minty cool taste blend with chocolate!

Dinner time!

Tempura Chirasi Sushi Set RM35
Prawn, Fish, Vegetable Tempura & Chirasi Sushi (different kinds of raw fish on sushi rice)
This set is served with cawanmushi, miso soup and salad.

Chirasi Sushi
We dig the japanese rice coz it's sticky and has the sake flavour in it. Not many japanese restaurant serve the rice as good as this. The assorted sushi on top are fresh too!

Silky smooth cawanmushi with lemon peel on top.

Miso Soup

Kake 'Inaniwa' Ramen RM22
Inaniwa Ramen served with spring onion, and yummie soup base.

We had a very fulfilling tea time and dinner @ illy cafe, Terrace. The Japanese food is sent from the kitchen of Fukuharu restaurant to illy Cafe just a few steps away. We will definitely come back again to try other dishes!

Haikara Style Cafe and Bakery, Subang

At the end of a tiring week we decided to re-visit this quaint little japanese cafe at Subang called Haikara. It seems that they are still going strong and has grown bigger, taking over another shop lot. This is no surprise as they serve very homely japanese food and great pastries and bread!

We start with simple, almost zen-like, appetizers. mushroom soup served in very interesting cups and fresh salad with just a right dollop of dressing. Nothing too heavy, just perfect as starters.

The chicken croquette is done just right, not too dry not soggy. The Curry Chicken rice is one of the best I have ever tasted. There is a certain something extra in the curry sauce compared to the others that I have had. Maybe it's the additional texture. And you can choose your preference of the spiciness for your curry. The chicken is fresh and perfectly fried. This is my ultimate comfort food on a rainy night.

This is fusion food yet it tastes so deliciously home made. Spaghetti with Beef Stew Set came with a warm butter roll. You can tear the butter roll in pieces and dip with the stew sauce, excellent! The butter roll taste very much different and better than the one sold in other bakery shops. Beef is tender and the sauce is not too heavy, perfect sauce paired with spaghetti!

Finally we finished our meal with this exquisite dessert called 3 Color Cream Puff. Though it's not litereally 3 colours but the soft fluffy cream puff is filled with 3 types of creams, Whipped cream, red bean paste and custard cream.
There is a something quintessentially japanese about the food here even though the menu is not necessarily what we call classic japanese. The attention to detail in food preparation definitely is.

We plan to try out the charcoal roasted coffee and the Haikara Steak on our next visit!
We hope this gem of a cafe stay this way for a long time to come.

Pasta Zenmai, Sunway Pyramid

I have tried Pasta Zenmai in 1utama when they opened few years back, the spaghetties were great! Not long ago, tried their new outlet at Empire Gallery @ Subang, it was a total let down. Recently we decided to try another outlet @ Pyramid, it didn't disappoint us. :) Pheww...but i would go to 1utama to try again whether they're still maintane their standard.

On weekdays evening, this place still packed.
Nice tea-pot.

Hotate Mentaimayo Tortila Roll (RM13)
This is advertised in their May Special promotion.
It looks very appetizing with mix sallad rolled with tortilla topped with scallop and spicy cod roe. Tortilla roll with fresh mayonaise + scallop, the taste blends very well. Yes, tis is very appetizing and am hooked!

Mini pasta set: Mini yasai no wafu soup pasta with mini chicken katsu curry rice (RM22)
The above is mini vegetables soup pasta comes with a mini chicknen cutlet curry rice. What a deal. Since it came with a mini set, so our stomach have room for the desserts later.
I like the soup pasta, it has a hint of black pepper taste for the soup and assortment of veges of brinjals, cabbage, green pepper and red pepper, onions, fried garlic and carrots. Spaghetti texture well-cooked.
Cant comment much on this Chicken curry rice, taste like it suppose to be. :)
Also taste like the ones serve in Sushi Zenmai, well I guess becoz both comes from the same company.

Love this Itachoco Monaka (RM8)
I am so addicted to this dessert, i could eat this in any of their outlets.
The vanilla ice-cream wafer with thick chococlate. You gotta have strong healthy teeth to eat tis one, one bite on it, so super icy cold. The wafer is spongy!!

Annin Pudding (RM8)
which is the Almond pudding , comes with milk mix almond. Both taste well together, but I find the strawberry doesnt blend well with the almond milk pudding.

Fukuharu restaurant , Terrace @ Hock Choon

I have been waiting to get my hands on this wonderful place. Terrace @ Hock Choon, featuring 4 restaurants, 3 bars & a cafe serving ILLY coffee. Fukuharu is one of the restaurant serving Japanese food located at the ground floor.

The place i seated overlooks a zen-like garden. Even the restaurant itself has the serene and calm atmosphere. I love this place immediately. Behind the trees, there is a poolside bar, but is no longer opened.

The waiter handed us the menu, and brought along this wooden blackboard to show us the menu of the day! :) Cute!

I ordered a Fukuharu Set lunch - RM38. It came with a starter - salad shown in pic below...i find it too salty for my liking. Cawanmushi is so good, very smooth egg texture.

Chef Omakase - Clam soup!! RM40
The clams are Huge and very fresh, goes well with the clear soup.

My set lunch - consist of some sushi assortment with salmon sashimi, scallop and prawn wrapped with fried potato skin, clams, and unagi pieces in the cocktail glass. Tempura with Udon soup is superb! The udon is springy and non-soggy.

Ends with a plate of fruits, now am feelin very full and satisfied.

Next, an afternoon coffee or margarita at the Cafe @ Terrace, located in the centre of the garden. Love this place too, looks like a glasshouse! So that you could sip your Illy coffee or Margarita while enjoying the view from the inside while enjoying the coolin air-conditioned on such hot afternoon day.

Alternatively, you could also enjoy the sun and coffee the same time sitting outside the Terrace over looking the pool.

I love this place, would like to come back to try another restaurant which serves Indochin food. Would recommend friends to come by here, as their service is great and food is fresh.
